Who is at risk of Cardiovascular Disease?

You may be at an elevated risk of developing heart disease if you:

  • Have diabetes
  • Are overweight or obese
  • Do not eat a balanced diet
  • Do not get enough exercise
  • Drink excessive amounts of alcohol
  • Smoke
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have high LDL cholesterol

This also means by eating a balanced diet, exercising, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding smoking, you can lower your risk of developing heart disease.

It is also important to know your family history of heart disease to assess if you may have an elevated risk.
